Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK), Version 1.6

The purpose of this release is to add refined detailed content to the material that was published in Business Analysis Body of Knowledge^®  (BABOK^®) version 1.4, as well as to include additional areas that were not addressed in 1.4. This release moves us significantly closer to a complete Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge^® (BABOK^®). Version 1.6 will remain available and in force until Version 2 is published in late 2008. After that, this document will remain available until the CBAP^® Exam is updated (approximately 3-6 months after the release of version 2).

This document represents a snapshot of the Knowledge Area documentation as of June 2006. Over the past months, since the previous release in October 2005, we have gathered feedback and input from many business analysis practitioners through a structured feedback process. Each reviewer in that process was pre-screened to ensure they represented practitioners with at least three to five years experience. Their feedback was used by the Knowledge Area sub-committees to refine our content.

We extend a huge thank-you to each reviewer for taking the time to help in the ongoing creation of the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge^®. We also heard from many IIBA^® members and potential members who informally reviewed the previous version. Rest assured your comments and ideas sparked many discussions among the core team or sub-committees. Your support and enthusiasm have been critical is helping us maintain focus and momentum. Version 1.6

Draft

This draft of version 1.6 of the BABOK was released in June of 2006 and is freely available for download by all members of the business analysis community.

Errata

October 15 , 2008: This errata for version 1.6 of the BABOK corrects typographical errors, grammatical errors, and other minor problems identified in the current draft of BABOK® version 1.6 and includes all changes made in the final update, except for changes to the layout and presentation. It has been reviewed by the Item Writing team for the CBAP® exam to verify that none of the changes listed here impact the CBAP® exam.

Final

This final update of version 1.6 was released in October 2008. It is available only to IIBA^® members. It includes an updated layout, which has enabled us to substantially reduce the page count, contains bookmarks in the PDF for easy cross-referencing, and incorporates all material in the October 15, 2008 Errata document. It does not include any additional content not found in the Draft or Errata documents.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You may use either the Draft + Errata or the Final version of BABOK 1.6 to prepare for the CBAP® exam. Both versions are equally valid for that purpose.

Solution Assessment and Validation KA

This draft of the Solution Assessment and Validation KA was completed after version 1.6 of the BABOK^® was completed and released to the public and the CBAP^® exam questions were written. Because it was not used to develop the certification exam, and the authors were not notified of the content of the exam, we are not required to make it available to non-IIBA^® members.
